FoodieCalc is an iPhone and iPad nutrition tracker for food logging, calorie and macro tracking, custom foods, recipes, saved meals, barcode lookup, widgets, goal setting, weight and hydration tracking, Apple Health integration, and optional AI-assisted features. This page combines the Privacy Policy, app license information, and Terms of Use so the important rules are available in one place.

By using FoodieCalc, you agree to these terms and to the way FoodieCalc handles data as described below. If you do not agree, you should stop using the app.

Your Choices at a Glance

• No account is required. Food logging and all core tracking features remain available without creating a FoodieCalc account.
• iCloud sync is separate. On supported Apple devices, FoodieCalc can keep app data in your private iCloud/CloudKit database. This can continue whether or not you create a FoodieCalc account.
• A FoodieCalc account is optional. Sign in with Apple or Google if you want account-based, cross-platform sync. Signing in alone does not upload your existing diary; the first upload requires a separate, explicit approval.
• Most AI features stay on device. Typed and voice Quick Log, nutrition estimates, and short nutrition insights use Apple's on-device Foundation Models when available.
• Photo logging is an opt-in cloud request. After a clear disclosure and your consent, the meal photo you choose is sent to Apple's Private Cloud Compute for that request. You can decline and continue using voice, text, search, and barcode logging.

What FoodieCalc Stores

FoodieCalc stores the nutrition and preference data you choose to create in the app. This may include food log entries, daily logs, custom foods, recipes and ingredients, saved meals, categories, calorie and macro goals, goal history, weight and water entries, cheat days, profile information used for goal calculation, onboarding state, widget snapshots, theme preferences, and app settings.

The app uses SwiftData as its offline store. Your data is stored on your device. Depending on the choices you make, supported data may also be copied to your private iCloud database, your optional FoodieCalc account, or both.

iCloud and CloudKit Sync

If iCloud is available and enabled for FoodieCalc, supported app data may sync through Apple's CloudKit infrastructure so it is available across your Apple devices signed in to the same Apple Account. FoodieCalc uses the private CloudKit database associated with your iCloud account. Apple describes private CloudKit data as belonging to the individual iCloud account and being accessible only to that user by default.

This private iCloud sync does not require a FoodieCalc account and is not replaced when you create one. Signing out of a FoodieCalc account pauses account-based cross-platform sync, but your local SwiftData store and supported iCloud sync can continue.

FoodieCalc does not receive your Apple Account password or operate Apple's iCloud servers. You can manage iCloud through Apple device settings. If iCloud is unavailable or disabled, FoodieCalc can continue storing supported data locally. Apple's CloudKit information and Apple privacy terms apply to Apple's processing.

Optional FoodieCalc Account and Cross-Platform Sync

You may create a FoodieCalc account using Sign in with Apple or Google Sign-In. FoodieCalc does not create a separate username or password. Its internal account record is provider-independent and is intentionally not built around an email address, display name, or avatar. Apple or Google verifies your identity and FoodieCalc receives the provider proof needed to create or access your account; FoodieCalc does not receive your provider password.

To operate and protect the account, FoodieCalc may store an internal user identifier, verified provider/issuer/subject identifiers, linked-provider records, account and session timestamps, a device-generated client identifier, platform and app-version metadata, and security records needed for sign-in, token rotation, logout, provider linking, and account deletion. Authentication credentials are protected using the device Keychain and server-side hashing or encryption appropriate to their purpose.

Creating or signing in to an account does not upload your existing FoodieCalc data. If you separately choose Set Up Cross-Platform Sync, FoodieCalc securely copies the currently supported data to its account service. That data may include your profile and goal history, categories, foods, recipes and ingredients, meals and entries, daily logs, weight, water, and cheat-day records. Future changes to those supported records may then synchronize between signed-in FoodieCalc apps. SwiftData remains the offline store and iCloud can remain enabled at the same time.

You may link both Apple and Google to the same FoodieCalc account through an explicit authenticated action. Accounts are not automatically merged by matching email addresses.

Signing out revokes or clears the applicable FoodieCalc session and pauses cross-platform sync; it does not erase local or iCloud data. Deleting your FoodieCalc account requires a fresh Apple or Google verification and permanently removes the server account, linked providers, sessions, and cross-platform synced data. It does not erase the local SwiftData store or private iCloud data. Use the app's separate Delete All Data control if you also want to erase supported local app data.

Apple Health

Apple Health integration is optional and controlled by Apple's permission sheet. Depending on the features you enable, FoodieCalc may request access to body metrics such as weight, height, biological sex, and date of birth; activity information such as active energy and steps; and dietary water. FoodieCalc may also write supported weight, water, dietary energy, protein, carbohydrate, and fat entries to Apple Health.

FoodieCalc uses permitted Health data to calculate and display goals, activity-aware information, weight and hydration progress, and related app features. FoodieCalc does not sell Health data or use it for advertising. Apple Health data remains managed by Apple, and you can review or change permissions in the Health app or device settings.

Food Search, Barcode Lookup, FatSecret, and Open Food Facts

FoodieCalc uses external nutrition data services to make food logging useful. Food search, barcode lookup, and nutrition lookup may send a search term, barcode, or related request value to FoodieCalc's service and the relevant nutrition-data provider in order to return food names, serving sizes, calories, macros, micronutrients, product details, or other nutrition information. FoodieCalc does not need to send your complete diary for a search or barcode lookup.

FoodieCalc uses the fatsecret Platform API for nutrition search and food data. Powered by fatsecret nutrition API. Nutrition information provided through FatSecret is displayed with FatSecret attribution where required. FoodieCalc is grateful to FatSecret for making a Premier Free tier available to eligible startups, non-profits, and students; that tier helps independent apps build serious nutrition experiences while providing proper attribution.

Nutrition information provided by FatSecret remains subject to the fatsecret Platform API Terms of Use and the fatsecret Platform API Attribution Policy. By using FoodieCalc features that display FatSecret-powered nutrition content, you acknowledge that this third-party nutrition content is also governed by FatSecret's applicable terms.

FoodieCalc may also use Open Food Facts for barcode and packaged-product lookup. Open Food Facts is a collaborative open database. Its database is available under the Open Database License (ODbL), the database contents are available under the Database Contents License, and product images may be available under Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike terms. FoodieCalc provides attribution when Open Food Facts-powered product data is used.

Open Food Facts data remains subject to the Open Food Facts terms of use, contribution, and reuse. If FoodieCalc or its users reuse, adapt, export, or combine Open Food Facts database content outside the app, ODbL attribution and share-alike obligations may apply.

Data from external food databases can be incomplete, out of date, or different from product packaging. Always review labels and important nutrition values before relying on them.

Nutrition data attribution

FatSecret nutrition data is used to power supported search and nutrition lookup features in FoodieCalc.

Packaged-product and barcode data may also be provided by Open Food Facts, used under its open-data terms and license requirements.

AI Processing: On Device and Private Cloud Compute

On-device Foundation Models

When available, FoodieCalc uses Apple's Foundation Models framework on your device to turn typed or spoken food descriptions into structured, editable entries, produce rough nutrition estimates when other sources do not resolve a food, and generate short nutrition insights. Voice audio and transcription are processed on the device. FoodieCalc does not send the prompt or result to an online AI provider for these on-device operations.

A network request may still follow for a separate function—for example, resolving a food name or barcode against a nutrition database, synchronizing data through iCloud, or synchronizing records you explicitly attached to a FoodieCalc account.

Meal photos and Apple's Private Cloud Compute

FoodieCalc uses Apple's server-based model on Private Cloud Compute for meal-photo analysis. Before the first Smart Mode request, FoodieCalc explains that the selected photo will leave the device and asks for your consent. If you consent and submit a photo, the photo and the instructions needed to identify visible foods are sent to Apple for that request. FoodieCalc does not use its own server or a third-party general-purpose AI service to analyze the photo.

Apple states that data sent to and returned by Private Cloud Compute is used only to fulfill the request, is not stored by Private Cloud Compute, and is not made accessible to Apple. Apple's current explanation is available in Apple Intelligence & Privacy. Apple's service availability, regional eligibility, connectivity requirements, and usage limits may apply.

You can decline Smart Mode and continue using voice, text, food search, manual entry, and the barcode scanner. AI output can be wrong or incomplete. Every AI-prepared food and portion remains editable, and nothing is added to the diary until you review and confirm it.

Widgets and App Groups

FoodieCalc widgets use App Groups shared storage to display compact snapshots such as daily calorie progress, macro progress, streak status, quick-log shortcuts, or Lock Screen summaries. Widgets are designed to read the small snapshot data they need instead of directly opening the full SwiftData store.

Notifications and Deep Links

FoodieCalc may use local notifications for optional reminders you choose to enable and may use app routing or deep links to open the correct screen from a notification, widget, Siri action, Visual Intelligence result, or app action. System permission controls whether notifications can be delivered.

Analytics, Advertising, and Tracking

FoodieCalc does not include advertising, does not sell personal or Health data, and does not use tracking technology for advertising. The app's current Apple privacy manifest declares that tracking is not performed. The FoodieCalc service may process limited operational and security information needed to deliver requests, protect accounts, apply rate limits, and diagnose failures; credentials, raw provider identifiers, and sync bodies are not intended to be written to application logs.

Children

FoodieCalc is intended for users who are old enough to manage their own nutrition information under the laws and platform rules that apply in their region. FoodieCalc is not designed to knowingly collect personal information from children without appropriate consent.

License and Terms of Use

App license

FoodieCalc is licensed, not sold. Unless a custom end-user license is presented with the app, your license is governed by Apple's Licensed Application End User License Agreement (Standard EULA) and the App Store Usage Rules. Subject to those terms, you receive a personal, limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to use FoodieCalc on Apple-branded devices you own or control.

FoodieCalc, its design, original text, icons, and software remain the property of their respective owner or licensors. Third-party software, nutrition data, trademarks, and other materials remain subject to their own licenses and terms.

Your responsibilities

You are responsible for the information you enter into FoodieCalc and for reviewing nutrition values before relying on them. You agree not to misuse the app or its services, interfere with security or availability, attempt unauthorized access, abuse third-party API access, upload content you do not have the right to use, or use FoodieCalc in a way that violates applicable law, platform rules, or third-party service terms.

Accounts and service access

You are responsible for maintaining control of the Apple or Google account used to sign in and for activity performed through your FoodieCalc account. FoodieCalc may restrict or suspend access to online services when reasonably necessary to protect users, the service, or third-party providers; address misuse or security risks; comply with law; or respond to provider or infrastructure limits. Local features that do not require an online service may remain available.

Nutrition and Medical Disclaimer

FoodieCalc is provided for general information, personal tracking, and convenience. It does not provide medical advice, diagnosis, treatment, or professional dietary guidance. Nutrition data from external databases, packaging, user-created entries, and AI-assisted estimates may be inaccurate or incomplete.

For medical conditions, eating disorders, allergies, pregnancy, athletic programs, clinical nutrition plans, or any serious dietary decision, consult a qualified healthcare professional. In an emergency, contact local emergency services.

Third-Party Services

Third-party services used by FoodieCalc operate under their own terms, privacy policies, availability rules, and technical limits. This includes Apple services such as the App Store, iCloud, CloudKit, HealthKit, Foundation Models, Private Cloud Compute, Siri, and Visual Intelligence; identity providers such as Apple and Google; and nutrition data services such as FatSecret and Open Food Facts.

FoodieCalc is not endorsed by Apple, Google, FatSecret, or Open Food Facts unless explicitly stated by that party. Trademarks belong to their respective owners.

Availability, Warranties, and Liability

FoodieCalc and its online services may change over time. Features can be added, modified, paused, or removed. External APIs and system services can change, become unavailable, impose usage limits, or return different data. To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law and subject to any rights that cannot be excluded, FoodieCalc is provided “as is” and “as available,” without a guarantee that every feature will always be available, accurate, secure, or error-free.

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, the provider of FoodieCalc is not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or similar losses arising from use of or inability to use the app or its external services. Nothing in these terms excludes or limits liability or consumer rights where doing so is prohibited by law. Apple's Standard EULA may provide additional warranty, support, liability, and third-party-beneficiary terms.

Changes to These Terms

This Privacy Policy, License & Terms page may be updated as FoodieCalc evolves, legal requirements change, or third-party integrations change. Material updates will be reflected on this page with a new last-updated date and, where required, an additional in-app notice or consent.
